Hope Valley Writers
Hope Valley Writers are proud to announce member Dee Finney's success in the
New Derbyshire Playwrights Competition. Her play, 'The Art of Deception', was
one of only three chosen to be staged at Chesterfield's Pomegranate Theatre on
March 21st for 3 nights. The Derbyshire Times's Lynne Patrick pronounced a good
night's entertainment was provided with skill and style.

Congratulations to Ian Hassall - one of the founder members of our Writing
Group who's play, 'The Sound of a Hammer' has been staged at the Hereford
Courtyard and was an outstsanding, award winning success
I have pleasure displaying the review it achieved:
Hassall's work is resonant of Mamet's in its exploration of the themes of
society and its preconceptions.
A young, mentally ill man is arrested for a crime we do not know whether he
committed. He is interrogated by two hard-core individuals who aim to tap into
his soul and to draw out the truth - their truth. The crime that has been
committed is a violent one, rape - murder even, and someone needs to pay.
The three professional players, Sam Bond, Nicola Westmoore and Kenneth Collard
all take excellent roles with commendable support from Performing Arts students
Rhiannon Parry and Ibby from Herefordshire College of Art and Design.
It's a text-rich production, which trips into poetry as easily as it encounters
the physical abuse of the interview room.
Prepare to be stretched, shocked, humiliated and angered. The writer's art in
incorporating humour into this piece only goes to highlight his skill.

We're always ready to welcome new members to our group no matter whether
they've been published/performed a thousand times or have just bought
themselves a pen and a piece of paper with the intention of trying to write
something.
But we do suggest that those interested should make contact with us first as whilst we usually meet
fortnightlyat the 'New Vic' Theatre Newcastle, we sometimes choose
other venues.
We are a very mixed bunch of writers and cover most aspects of writing
including poetry, plays, short stories, novels and articles. We'll even write
letters of thanks if anyone likes to send us money! Most of all though, we're
a very informal group of mixed abilities and always prepared to help each other
