Of Cow Byres and Elephants
By
Mick Mundy
Have you ever been so frustrated that you wish you could run away and be your
own person?
Martin Bennett was, and he did just that. Or rather he didn't walk he cycled
away on a rusty old bike that he bought the day he stalked out of the bank
where he walked.
You see it was Martin's 30th birthday and he realised he was in a king sized
rut. He was also confronted by a queue of customers all eager so it seemed to
put him down. That's when he did it - walked out, I mean, and in to an
exciting and wide variety of adventures. Of course there are an equally wide
variety of characters to either help or hinder him including Mr. Oldenshawe his
ex area manager and his to cronies Moses a local Tramp and Gumbo Wilkins, Moses
brother and escaped convict. Oh yes, Mr. Oldenshawe is up to no good and it
takes the help of the glamorous Aurora a circus elephant trainer, Angelina (Mr.
Oldenshawes niece), Nigel a travelling busker and a whole host of other people
that Martin befriends to help him out of trouble.
Originally written for the 'Emissary Humerous Novel Competition' where it was
entered as 'The Great Escape' and was short listed, it has since had a complete
make over into the fine book it is now.
