A Walk in the Forest
|
An atheist was out for a walk on a beautiful day, as he walked through the woods the sun was beaming its way through the canopy of branches and fresh green leaves, and as he went along by the river the water was bubbling over the rocks and splashing the wild flowers that grew along its banks. "My what a truly wonderful accident of evolution," he said to himself and stopped for a while just to hear the birds singing in the trees and the small animals scuffling about in the undergrowth.
Just then he heard footsteps, heavy footsteps and they were getting nearer and nearer. He looked and saw an enormous bear coming towards him. He ran but the bear could run even quicker and was rapidly catching him up. Then a tree root growing across the path tripped him and he fell heavily to the ground. The bear was a very hungry bear and it raised its paw in readiness for the kill.
"God save me." The man cried.
There was a brilliant light and time stopped. The bear froze in mid action, and all the leaves on the trees were still, even the river stopped flowing. There wasn't a sound anywhere. Then a voice spoke, "You deny my existence all of these years; teach others I don't exist; even credit my creation to a cosmic accident, and now do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I to count you as a believer?"
The atheist being a proud man said, It would be rather hypocritical to ask to be a Christian after all these years, but could you make the bear a Christian?"
"Very well," said the voice. As the light went out, the river ran, and the sounds of the forest continued, the bear put his paw down. Then he brought both paws together... bowed his head and said... "Lord, I thank you for this food, which I am about to receive.
