Universe Of The Mind (2)
by Judith Scott
The darkness is not total
Stars nail together unimaginable distances
Pinpoints of memory stud the past
Unknown constellations huddle in clusters
So many forgotten friends!
Distant galaxies glimmer in the void
Memories of far-off times glow briefly
Comets flash by trailing fire
A flare of recognition as you see my face
And cosmic dust sparkles as they pass
And your smile illuminates my day
REVELATIONS
But then, searing my mind like napalm
A moment's vision of your universe
Of the black hole that is eating
Your memory of who I am,
Of who you were.
And a vision also of those
dark asteroids silently
twisting towards me,
like the future.

These poems represent a 'follow on' from the 'Universe of the Mind' poem we recently displayed on this page and received so many excellent comments.
Judith Scott Writes:
The 'Universe of the Mind' poem is one of many that I have written charting the
disintegration of my dear Mum from Alzheimers disease, I
hope this won't be seen as too personal/morbid, or whatever, for the
site, but I would one day perhaps like to get this (illustrated) series
into print, so it will be interesting to get a first reaction from the
group members, please?
Your comments
Universe of the Mind I found interesting without knowing the reason behind it. Now I'm in possession of that knowledge, I find it very touching. I too 'lost' my mother. Being the youngest of the family, I was not in her past, after the first year. I loudly applaud your poem.

I am not a great poetry reader and certainly never write it, but I 'quite
liked' Universe of the Mind - till I read your comment on the meaning - then
I loved it. I also lost my mother to Alzheimer's.
