Publishers / Agents - Your Stories
My two novels were not accepted by conventional publishers and received the
ubiquitous rejections. A few years ago a new kind of book publishers offered to
sell my work. They accepted my novels, after I had adjusted a few minor things
to their satisfaction. I paid an administration fee. I was informed that in
future people would be using palm-reading computers and, indeed, people are now
using hand-held readers for fast text and instant pictures but not whole books.
Several relations and friends have bought my books but most are disappointed to
have to print out the book on receipt. In addition, I have received no
percentage of sales as promised by the publishers.
Now here`s the rub; the website is still there and my books are still for sale.
But it is dead, I tried to email but the address was null and void and I tried
to fax a letter saying I wish my books to be removed from the website but the
number is unavailable. How do I know that the owner of the website is not
collecting revenue from sales? Why have I never received any percentage of the
sales I know I should have? If and when the website disappears where will my
books go? The copyright belongs to me but that fact does not comfort me.
