Why Do We Write
I write because it's in me to express myself to the people who will
listen.
I rarely allow anyone to read what I write, it's like a precious diary to
me, one of my life, my troubles, my hopes and desires and expectations.

I have written stories for as long as I can remember - at least since I was eight or nine. Apparently, before that, I lisped out little fairytales to whoever would listen, almost as soon as I could talk. (This information comes from older siblings who were treated, if that is the word, to my earliest sagas!)
Why do I do it? Because writing is as natural and as necessary to me as breathing. It is my life's blood, and, without it, I would cease to live. Oh, it is possible that some strange being who looked a bit like me might exist, but the universe would be a grey place, inhabited by shadows drifting by, meaningless.
So, I write to survive, to maintain my sanity, and because I only feel truly alive when I have some writing project on the go.

The question stirs my psyche and initially I am inclined to hold back from
trying to reply. Nevertheless, I will say that my enquiring mind and the innate
imagination I possess compels me to write things down. Then I go on to compose
a fictitious story or a piece of nonfiction.
F.Scott Fitzgerald the American author of the 1925 novel "The Great Gatsby"
wrote this: quote. You don`t write because you want to say something, you write
because you have something to say. unquote.
This, I think, is a good piece of advice for me and for all writers. A theme
is necessary - a comment on life past or present or even future - it helps to
make something of mere scribbling.
