A Ferret of a man!

Skip the Workshop take me straight to the submissions

Have you ever though of somebody as an animal or bird or even some unmentionable creepy crawly that shouldn't even be mentioned? Or perhaps you may have thought of a person as a piece of furniture, like an old armchair for example, comfortable, well used and good to be with but regularly sat on (and likes it).

Well this is your chance to capitalise on those thoughts. We want you to not only describe a person in this manner but also to illustrate why that description applies, by writing a story, an article, or a poem.

To get those brainwaves moving, here is a poem that Roger has put together.

ODE TO A LONELY HEART

She was as pretty as a butterfly, bedecked from ear to ear
in all her finest make up and jewellery, the gear.
Long chiffon dress in powder blue, with sequins on the chest,
she knew she looked most beautiful, a queen in her love nest.
Her nails were brightly painted, beneath her cotton gloves,
preparations for her darling, her own true love of loves.
A candle on the table, the serviette, the wine.
Everything was perfect. For him. Just so. Divine.
His picture on the piano, his special loving smile,
in her tiny little bed sit, he watched her all the while.
She turned the music lower, not long now to wait,
He'd soon be here, to share with her, this their weekly date.
Then at last - the only man, who showed her no derision
was with her now, in this her room and on her television.

Now it's your turn but remember, we don't want to be sued for defamation of character or charged with causing a divorce!
