The Boat
Picture a boat (or ship), is it on water or dry land? Maybe a rowing boat
upside down on dry land. It could be a pirate ship or Man O' War. An aircraft
carrier, a submarine or a toy boat in a little boy's bath.
Even a model boat in a shop window.
What colour is it?
What's the weather like, if it's outside?
Are there any smells (fish, ozone, oil)?
Who can you see?
Got the idea? now write about it and don't forget sounds and smells.
Short stories 2500 words or less
Poetry 40 lines or less. (This workshop should generate a number of ideas for
poets. Rough seas, ship wrecks etc.)
Articles 1500 words (Is there a marina near you? try describing the boats.
Failing that, can you visit a local pool and talk to the owners of model boats
and write an article on that.)
